Days before the Mekong ICT Camp 2017
On the 01 September 2017, ODC team and our volunteer team were on their way heading to Siem Reap province to prepare the Mekong ICT Camp while many participants were on their ways to the Camp too. The Camp was organized at the Sokha Siem Reap Resort & Convention Center not really far from the town. The place is the very beautiful architecture and great facilities, also the big hall of conference at the front of the resort along the road where everyone can see the banner of Mekong ICT Camp 2017 hanging on the welcome grate of the hall.
On the second day, after the stunning breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, all of our team organizers, volunteers and ODC team gathering the meeting to discuss and share the agenda and tasks what we all gonna do during the Camp for the whole week and also preparing the document and stationary.
On the 03 September, our local and other participants traveling from different countries were heading from a long distance to meet each other at the Camp, and we are very thankful to the volunteer team who has been working so hard to greeting our participants from the Siem Reap international airport and bring them to the hotel.
The welcome dinner also hosted at the same day. More 100 participants were arrived. The preparation for the dinner was organized near the pool with the beautiful Mekong ICT Banner stage and yellow and white decorated table with the fresh flower on it. Around the 7 pm, the welcoming the participants, facilitators, and donors was starting with the Chai Yam traditional dancing and wearing the Mekong ICT Camp 2017 Krama on their shoulder and greeting them to the dinning table. Everyone was really enjoyed their meals after the long hours traveling with the small chit chat to the people sharing the table, and soon after, our organizers went on the stage to give the welcome speech, and then we moved to the video documentation of the previous Mekong ICT Camp, and every body was really enjoy it.
To make the dinner time to be more exciting, ODC team and organizer from the Thai Fund Foundation, went to the stage to announce the seed grant award to the participants with the short slide presentation. The best 5 projects or the 5-most-popular projects will win the award USD 3,000 to develop and to pilot their project in 3 months. To win the award, all participants were encouraged to submit their ideas first before the 6 pm on 04 September, and their ideas should be related to the following topics: Government transparency, Environmental and climate change, Resilience and smart city, Community WiFi, Internet security and privacy, Online training, and any technology project to support social development. And there will be a brief presentation their ideas on the next day in just 2 mn.
The warming greeting was finished with smile. Everyone need to be well sleep and be ready for the next day and the whole week for rest activities arranged.
